As one of the class project managers, I have the unique opportunity to listen to the group presentations in a different way. Even though I’m not involved in the development of a presentation, I’m tasked with both introducing and concluding the presentation, which is a very exclusive task. My responsibility is to maintain a good flow in between each presentation in order to keep the procession smooth. For our chapter presentations, it was my first time practicing such a task. I wasn’t sure of the particular way to go about presenting my assigned group since I didn’t have prior experience, but despite that, I managed to practice a process that I’ll use for the rest of the class this semester.
Group #1’s presentation was the most well-researched presentation in my opinion. This group’s presentation mostly informed the audience about methods that should be utilized when creating a great presentation. Their chapters were based on the real world application public-speaking and performance has on an individual and their audience. I learned a lot about the different components to a presentation, including language models, listening skills, and speech anxiety. These factors are incredibly dependent on the type of speaker you are, which can be molded through the practice of public-speaking. Most speakers of this group spoke with clarity and experience, which connected me to their ideas as the audience.
Most of Group #1’s speakers stood out to me in the audience, which made the presentation that much more engaging. I believe that they really practiced what they were teaching the class about, which made their presentation even more effective. The manner in which the entire group spoke about their assigned topic made me believe that it was well-researched and well-prepared. Each speaker transitioned from one topic to another very smoothly and truly took their time to inform the audience of the chapter’s ideas. As the first group to present, I really think they managed to set the tone for the rest of the presentations.
Group #2’s presentation was the most structured presentation in my opinion. Group #2 was tasked with informing the audience about the beginning stages of well-crafted presentation and speech. I personally really engaged with their presentation since most of the speakers spoke about the technical aspects of presenting and public speaking, which is effective to me as a technical person. As someone who learns best through instruction and guidance, I can appreciate each speaker explaining their topic as well-informed as they can, to explain the details of a presentation and speech that might go unnoticed. As I listened to their presentation, I realized that there’s a science behind the preparation and performance process that contributes to an effective presentation.
Preparing a presentation is a meticulous process due to the fact that piecing together ideas as a whole is hard. Developing topics for a presentation and speaking effectively to communicate these ideas are two different tasks that contribute to one successful spoken presentation, which includes the organization and outline that goes along with it. Group #2’s informative speech was helpful for understanding the process behind public-speaking and producing effective speeches. The way this group organized their presentation demonstrated very strong understanding and application of the material.
I was tasked with Group #3’s introduction to their presentation so I knew their presentation topic and wanted to flow the previous presentation to theirs smoothly. The topics were very similar in nature so my introduction aimed to bridge the gap between the presentations. Group #3’s presentation was the most visually-appealing and the speakers were extremely keen on explaining the essential elements that are a sum of a whole presentation. Many of the topics were focused on the qualities of a presentation that should be focused on and what tools to utilize. A successful speech presentation utilizes language, visual models, and effective delivery to deliver information in the most optimal way.
Group #3’s delivery of their presentation was the most memorable since their visual lent the presentation something special. They connected these elements together in a presentation with nice visual media and models, utilizing the tools in the chapter. By communicating these ideas effectively, they were able to leave a lasting impression and I’m pretty excited to see what future presentations will look like. Not only were they concise speakers but they worked together to make the presentation memorable. I hope my introduction to their presentation also lent some charm but the speakers communicated during each part of the process amazingly.
Group #4’s presentation was the most informative. They explained the different presentation types and their purposes, which is extremely helpful to know when you’re trying to deliver information effectively. Whether it’s a business proposal, a lecture, a motivational speech, or a sales pitch, presentations play an important role in how ideas are perceived and understood. Their presentation demonstrated strong research and a solid understanding of their chapters so I understood the information they were speaking about. That’s a testament to their research and quality of skill. Overall, the group delivered an informative presentation that reflected their research into the topics as well as explained it in a concise and clear manner.
Speaking overall, all of the presentations were effective in communicating their ideas. Considering the time constraints, I’m really impressed with all the presentations and speakers. The groups developed their presentations effectively and chose different kinds of techniques to elaborate upon their topics. As a project manager, I experience these presentations differently than everyone in the class but on presentation day, I learned from my own classmates instead of teaching them like everyone else did. Everyone, including myself, applied our skills that we learned during the presentation which was also a valuable part of the experience. As we progress through the semester, these skills will become stronger with all the reinforcement from future presentations. The practice we do is important for beyond the class, cultivating these skills will come in clutch for careers and opportunities that present themselves. When they happen, we will be prepared.
Really nice writing!!
